I'd add as a rejoinder that it's not just that we are unprepared for the information campaigns -during- the election cycle. It's the ones that will come after that are going to be particularly bad.
Given the complete abdication of responsibility by social media companies for content appearing on their platforms, combined with the extended campaigns to essentially poison the public sphere, we are completely and utterly unprepared for the chaos of the next election cycle.
